Coffee Talk

With our crazy schedules these days, the simple coffee date is becoming more popular. They are quick, casual and affordable. They can be memorable too and can certainly be the kick off to a fabulous relationship with a potential mate. But how do you make that coffee date connection? Here are some tips.

  • Do Some Research
If you are the person setting up the date, be sure to visit the place you are meeting to verify that there is enough seating and that the environment is relaxed and inviting. Check out any special events that could be happening there, such as live music or poetry reading, that could add to the enjoyment of the date. And of course, note the hours of operation so you are sure to show up at a time when it’s open!
  • Eat Something Beforehand
Don’t assume that the date will include a snack or turn into dinner. Be prepared for just coffee or another beverage and getting to know one another. If things are going well, suggest that you and your date share a treat.
  • Don’t be late to the date
There is no such thing as “fashionably late” when it comes to a date. First impressions are very important. It might even be a good idea to arrive early and find the perfect spot for a cozy conversation. Remember, it is never a good thing to make someone wait, so try your best to be on time.
  • Order What You Really Want
It’s important to be yourself. If you feel like your coffee order is a strange one, then make fun of yourself for it. But don’t be something you are not. You never know – your date might order the same thing!
  • Make Eye Contact During the Date
There is nothing worse than someone who won’t look you in the eye. Pay attention and let your date know you are listening. It could be a challenge if your meeting spot is loud or crowded. Block out your surroundings and focus on the person who is with you.
  • Don't Make a Big Deal Over Who Pays
One of the biggest advantages of a coffee date is that it doesn’t cost a lot of money. It is probably more appropriate if the person who requested the date pays for the date, especially since the bill will not likely total very much. Don’t make it a big deal.
  • Suggest Meeting Again
If there was a connection, don’t be afraid to ask for another date, especially if you are sure that you want to see this person again. Pick a time in the near future and ask if the other person is free. Go for it!
