From Taco Bell to Wedding Bells

As Told by : Sue, age 41

I met Michael for the first time in college when we were in the same couple of classes one semester. I could tell he was a fun guy and I liked joking around with him in class. We had a lot of common friends so we hung out quite a bit at local clubs and places as a group. We got along great, but I wasn’t sure he would ever ask me out. I even thought about asking him, but I decided to wait because I felt like he should make the first move.

One night while at a party with friends, Michael and I spent more time together than usual. There was a lot of flirting and I could tell he was interested, yet nothing was really happening. He wasn’t initiating anything more than conversation and he had yet to ask me out on a date. So I “played it cool” and kept waiting even though I was dying for him to ask me out!

We ended up separating from the group later in the evening because we were both hungry. The only place that was open was Taco Bell. When we arrived there, my wish finally came true. Michael kissed me right there in the parking lot and asked for a date. After almost 20 years of marriage and three kids, every time we pass a Taco Bell we still think about where it all began for us. It just goes to show you that you never know where a great romance is going to start.

Wright from the Heart

There is a common saying – “Don’t sweat the small stuff” – which is true - however, you should definitely pay attention to certain situations in life that seem small or unimportant. The fact that Sue and Michael found love in the parking lot of Taco Bell proves that sometimes the simplest moments in life are the most significant. Spending a lot of time and money trying to impress your date really isn’t necessary. It’s not the “where you are” or “what you spend” – but rather the “who you are with” that’s important.

Sue and Michael probably would have discovered that they were in love just about anywhere. When you meet your lifetime soul mate, the power of your connection is unavoidable. When dating, let this couple be an example to you. Don’t go out of your way to try and make an impression on your date. Just be yourself and you will probably have a better chance of attracting the person that you are meant to be with forever.
