A Casual Dinner for Four Leads to More

As Told by : Wendy, age 37

My first date with Bob was a double date. Instead of going out, he made dinner for all of us at his apartment. He prepared a dinner of chicken on the Foreman Grill with Kraft Macaroni and Cheese on the side! It was a simple dinner but it was yummy and the time together was casual and a lot of fun.

After dinner, we went to see a minor league baseball game at the old Bush Stadium in Indianapolis. There was nothing fancy about our first date, but it gave us time to have great conversation and really enjoy each other. And the great times have lasted - we've been married for 10 years and have two beautiful boys. Life is good! By the way, he still wears the golf shirt he wore on that first date nearly 14 years ago!

Love stories like that of Wendy and Bob remind us that you don't have to spend a lot of money on a first date to make a good impression. This couple knew they had a connection - even it was just over a homemade dinner of chicken and macaroni & cheese. It proves that sometimes the smallest effort can lead to the biggest pay out. Speaking less time in the kitchen probably worked to Bob's advantage in that he had more time to spend with Wendy and get to know her.

If you are planning a first date, step outside the box like Bob did. A dinner party in your own home is a great way to break the ice and get to know one another without the distractions of a lot of noise or other people. It does not have to be extravagant or expensive. Just look at Bob's example - with just a simple box of macaroni and cheese and some chicken, combined with a baseball game, he was able to connect with his soul mate for a lifetime.
