A Flick gives Dating a Kick

Most everyone enjoys watching a good movie - especially when you get to do so with someone you care about. While catching a flick might not be the best option for a first or second date, because you will likely be spending your time trying to get to know one another, it is great activity for when you have reached the point where you are more comfortable together. Movies are a great source of entertainment and can help to generate a lot of conversation between you and your romantic partner.

So are there specific movies that you like to watch with your significant other? I was curious about how people would answer this question, so I polled my Facebook friends to see what they had to say. Many provided their favorite movies, as well as a quote from each. Here are some of the highlights of the feedback I received from them :

  • “My husband and I enjoy the movie The Crow. It’s a love story that appeals to the freak in us.” - Heather R.
  • "Fletch is the funniest movie ever made. The line we quote all the time is, “Can I borrow your towel? My car just hit a water buffalo." - Karen H.
  • “Add the movies Ghostbusters, Stripes, and Spies Like Us, to Fletch and you've got the makings of perfect evening here. You can put that on the Underhill's tab.” - Darren B.
  • “We watch Titanic a lot…okay, where do I turn in my man card?” - Philip G.
  • “My husband and I love to watch Office Space, Tommy Boy and The Bourne Identity.” - Julie W.
  • “As much as I hate to admit this, but Jerry Maguire is a great movie to watch on a date. Show me the money!” - Thomas M.
  • “My husband loves to quote Talladega Nights when he says to me, ‘Thank you baby Jesus for my smoking hot wife’.” - Marla T.
  • “My husband and I constantly quote lines from Christmas Vacation. Love that movie and the quote, ‘I couldn’t be more surprised if I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet’.” - Lisa P.
  • “Blazing Saddles, History of the World, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. ‘Bring out your dead!” - Lisa R.

It’s interesting that almost all of the movies mentioned were comedies. I was expecting to hear the names of a few more romantic movies at the very least! But after thinking about it, I have to admit that my husband and I choose a comedy over any over type of movie almost every time. We have found that a funny movie serves as a good de-stressor – not to mention a form of escape - after a long and busy day working or with our kids. And it looks like a lot of other couples share that thinking!

No matter what type of movie you choose to watch with your soul mate, the most important thing is that you are spending time together. A movie date either out at the local theater or in on your favorite couch is a fun and affordable way to enjoy each other as a couple. Movies provide unforgettable moments that stay with us forever – and watching these movies with your soul mate makes even more memories that last a lifetime.
